The stops we'd build a Dublin trip around
One honest pick per place, and why. Open any for the full verdict. The planner arranges these into your days for you.
- Trinity College and the Book of Kells Worth it with caveats
Go, but go in with clear eyes.
- Guinness Storehouse Worth it with caveats
Touristy, yes, but it earns its reputation.
- Dublin Castle Worth it with caveats
Worth a stop, mostly for the medieval undercroft and the Chester Beatty next door, but only when the castle is open…
- St Patrick's Cathedral Worth it
A worthwhile, low-cost stop, and a quietly moving one if you care about Swift or catch the choir.
- Christ Church Cathedral Worth it
Go for the crypt, not the nave.
- EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum Worth it
Worth it if you go in knowing what it is: a slick, all-digital story machine, not a hall of objects.
- Jameson Distillery Bow St. Worth it
A fun, well-run hour with a tasting at the end, as long as you accept it is a brand experience and not a working…
Good to know before you plan
Where we would spend carefully, or not at all.
- Trinity College and the Book of Kells Worth it with caveats Go, but go in with clear eyes. The Book of Kells display is brief and the Long Room is partly disrupted by conservation work through 2026, so if you are picturing the full library shot, you will not quite get it this year.
- Guinness Storehouse Worth it with caveats Touristy, yes, but it earns its reputation. The exhibition is genuinely well done, the rooftop view is the best you will get without paying for an observation deck, and the included pint at the top is a fair trade.
- Dublin Castle Worth it with caveats Worth a stop, mostly for the medieval undercroft and the Chester Beatty next door, but only when the castle is open: the State Apartments and tours closed on 5 May 2026 and the full campus from mid-June, all through the end of December for the EU Presidency.
- Temple Bar Worth it with caveats Temple Bar earns a short visit, because the look really is what you imagined and the location puts you next to half of central Dublin. It turns into poor value the moment you treat it as the best place in town to drink your way through the night.
