The Accademia wins for David, but the Bargello wins for the better overall sculpture visit.

Pick the Accademia if this is your one shot at Michelangelo's original David. Pick the Bargello if you care about Renaissance sculpture beyond the postcard and would rather spend your time with Donatello, Michelangelo, Cellini, and Giambologna in a calmer museum.

This is not really a fair fight on fame. The Accademia has the one object almost every first-time Florence visitor feels they have to see: David, plus Michelangelo's unfinished Prisoners on the way in.

The Bargello is the better museum visit for sculpture lovers. It has Donatello's bronze David, major Michelangelo works, Cellini, Giambologna, and a historic courtyard, usually with far less queue drama than the Accademia.
