This is mostly a false choice because they are an easy walk apart on Castle Hill. If you must rank one, Fisherman’s Bastion wins for the iconic Budapest view, while Buda Castle is the better pick only if you want museums.

Fisherman’s Bastion is the fairytale white terrace most people picture when they imagine Budapest views. The lower terraces are free, the upper towers charge a small fee during ticketed hours, and early morning is the clever move because the view is still there and the crowds are not.

Buda Castle is the large palace complex nearby. The courtyards and exterior are free to wander, but the main reason to go inside is ticketed museum time at places like the Hungarian National Gallery or Budapest History Museum.
