The names sound similar, but the trips are completely different. Montjuic is Barcelona’s city hill, with the castle, gardens, MNAC, Olympic sites, viewpoints, and the paid cable car all close enough to mix and match.

Montserrat is outside the city, usually reached by train from Barcelona plus either the rack railway or cable car up the mountain. It is home to the monastery and Black Madonna, with hiking and big rock scenery that make it a real day trip rather than a quick stop.
